William Edmonson was a renowned African-American folk artist, celebrated for his unique stone carvings. Among his most notable works is the Angel Gabriel sculpture, which is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Other remarkable creations include a depiction of a nursing mother and a sculpture of a boy accompanied by a dog. Edmonson gained widespread acclaim for his artistic talents, making history as the first African American to hold a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1937. In addition to his artistic achievements, Edmonson also pursued an acting career, appearing in The Twilight Zone (1959), Thirty Years Later (1928), and Shirley Temple’s Storybook (1958).
