Wanda Hamidah is an Indonesian activist, actress, and advocate for social justice who gained prominence for her outspoken views on social and political issues, particularly women’s rights and environmental conservation. She co-founded the non-profit organization “Women’s Solidarity for Justice” (WSJ) in 2007 and served as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014.
Hamidah began her career as a model and actress, appearing in several Indonesian films and television shows. She is also known for her involvement in human rights and gender equality campaigns. In 2019, she was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Indonesia.
Hamidah has received numerous awards for her work, including the “Woman of the Year” award from the Indonesian Women’s Congress in 2011 and the “Ramon Magsaysay Award” for Emergent Leadership in 2014. She is recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential Women in the World” by The Guardian and has been honored with the “Global Leadership Award” by the Vital Voices Global Partnership.
Hamidah is a certified scuba diver and an avid traveler. She is known for her love of traditional Indonesian music and dance, and often incorporates these elements into her activism and advocacy work.
