Twiggy, born Lesley Lawson née Hornby, is an English model, actress, and singer who gained fame during the 1960s. Known for her androgynous appearance, doe eyes, and short hair, she became one of the most iconic faces in the fashion industry. Twiggy was the first model to represent a lifestyle rather than just clothing and is widely considered one of the world’s first supermodels. She was greatly influenced by Jean Shrimpton and based her “look” on Pattie Boyd.
In addition to her modeling career, Twiggy pursued acting and music, appearing in films such as “The Boy Friend,” “W,” and “Madame Sousatzka.” She also released several albums, including her award-winning debut single, “Beautiful Dreams,” in 1967. Twiggy’s achievements include winning two Golden Globe awards for her performances and being named among the 100 most important people of the 20th century by TIME magazine.
Less known is Twiggy’s voiceover work, including her role as the Fairy Godmother in Disney’s 2008 film, “Tinker Bell,” as well as appearances in “The Magic Roundabout” and “The Simpsons.” She formally retired from modeling in 1970 to focus on her film career and published a best-selling autobiography, “Twiggy,” in 1975.
