Kirk’s career with Disney came to an end when news of his homosexuality threatened to become public. Despite this setback, he continued to act in various films and television shows throughout his career.
Kirk’s notable achievements include receiving a Golden Globe Award for Best Juvenile Actor for his role in “Old Yeller” and being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Swiss Family Robinson.” He was also recognized as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” by People magazine in 1962.
