Robert Edward Turner III, commonly known as Ted Turner, is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, sportsman, and environmentalist. He is best known for founding a media empire that encompasses various television channels, including CNN, the first-ever 24-hour news channel. In addition to CNN, Turner’s media empire also comprises the Turner Broadcasting System and television networks such as TBS and TNT. Apart from his media ventures, Turner is recognized for his philanthropic work in environmental conservation and population control. As a sportsman, he notably skippered the yacht Courageous to victory in the 1977 America’s Cup.
