Virginia Wynette Pugh, better known as Tammy Wynette, was a renowned American country music singer and songwriter. Often referred to as the “First Lady of Country Music,” she gained prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with her most famous works, including “Stand by Your Man,” “D-I-V-O-R-C-E,” and “I Don’t Wanna Play House.” Wynette also found success with other hits like “Singing My Song” and “Til I Get It Right.” Throughout her illustrious career, she received three Country Music Association Awards and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Despite battling medical issues such as sclerosing cholangitis, Wynette continued to create music until her passing in 1998. Notably, her hit song “Stand by Your Man” became one of the best-selling hits in country music history.
