Sir Thomas More, an English humanist and statesman, was renowned for his book “Utopia,” published in 1516, which depicted an ideal society. As the chancellor of England, he was executed in 1535 for his refusal to recognize King Henry VIII as the leader of the Church of England. More’s other significant works and accomplishments include “The History of Richard III,” “A Dialogue Concerning Heresies,” and “The Life of John Picus, Earl of Mirandula.” In 1935, the Catholic Church canonized him as a saint.
