Shirley Crabtree Jr., widely recognized as Big Daddy, was a renowned British professional wrestler during the 1970s and 1980s. He initially gained fame in the late 1950s and early 1960s under the moniker “Blond Adonis Shirley Crabtree.” Although he wasn’t an exceptional athlete, Big Daddy’s charisma and showmanship won over fans. He worked with Joint Promotions and the original British Wrestling Federation, becoming a fan favorite after partnering with Giant Haystacks. Throughout his career, Big Daddy secured multiple championships and solidified his status as a true icon in British wrestling.
Big Daddy also briefly ventured into acting in the early 1990s, appearing in the British comedy-drama film ‘The Pope Must Die.’ However, his scenes were ultimately removed from the final cut. Despite this short-lived acting stint, Big Daddy’s legacy remains rooted in his wrestling accomplishments and his larger-than-life personality. Over twenty years after his passing, he is still remembered as one of the most prominent figures in British wrestling.
