Russell Tyrone Jones, also known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard (November 15, 1968 â November 13, 2004), was a renowned American rapper and a founding member of the influential Wu-Tang Clan. He rose to prominence with his distinctive rapping style and his debut solo album, “Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.” Jones contributed to several other successful Wu-Tang albums, such as “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” and “Wu-Tang Forever.” He also made appearances in movies and television shows like “Funny People” and “The Chris Rock Show.” In 1998, Jones received a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Throughout his career, he was known for his outrageous antics and legal troubles.
Apart from his musical accomplishments, Jones displayed an act of heroism in 1998. While in Los Angeles for the Grammy Awards, he stopped a man from committing suicide by engaging him in conversation and performing a song until the police arrived and rescued the man from a building ledge. The LAPD later recognized ODB for his bravery.
