Robert De Niro, born in New York City, rose to fame for his portrayal of the young mob boss Vito Corleone in “The Godfather: Part II” (1974). A prominent figure of the New Hollywood era, De Niro co-founded Tribeca Productions and the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 to support independent films and revitalize lower Manhattan after the 9/11 attacks.
