James Richard “Rick” Perry is an American politician with a long history in Texas politics. He served as the governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015, making him the longest-serving governor in the state’s history. After his tenure as governor, Perry joined President Donald Trump’s administration as the secretary of energy from 2017 to 2019. He also sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012 and 2016. Prior to his time as governor, Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984, where he served three two-year terms. His family has deep roots in the state of Texas.
