Richard Ashcroft, an English singer, songwriter, and musician, is best known as the lead vocalist for the band The Verve. He gained widespread recognition in the 1990s with their hit song “Bittersweet Symphony” and later won an Ivor Novello Award for the track. NME magazine has listed Ashcroft as one of the best singers in British music history.

In 2019, he received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin has praised him as “the best singer in the world.” Ashcroft’s solo career began in the 2000s with his debut album “Alone with Everybody,” featuring the hit single “A Song for the Lovers.” He has since released successful albums such as “Human Conditions” and “Natural Rebel.”

In addition to his solo work, Ashcroft was the lead singer of the alternative rock band The Verve, which formed in 1990. They released their debut album “A Storm in Heaven” in 1993 and achieved commercial success throughout the 1990s with their shoegaze sound and elements of psychedelic music.

An interesting fact about Ashcroft is that he declined an offer to be the lead singer of Oasis, as he was committed to The Verve and their music.
