Phil Harris (1904-1995) was a multifaceted American talent, known for his work as an actor, comedian, musician, and songwriter. He gained prominence as an orchestra leader and played a pioneering role in radio situation comedy. Harris first appeared on The Jack Benny Program before co-starring with his wife, Alice Faye, in The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show for eight years. He collaborated with renowned artists like Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong and lent his voice to iconic Disney characters such as Baloo in The Jungle Book and Little John in Robin Hood. Among his notable works are the hit song “The Thing,” his fishing boat named after his song “That’s What I Like About The South,” and the comedic tune “The Preacher and the Bear.” Harris was posthumously inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
