Randolph Peter Best, commonly known as Pete Best, is an English musician who gained recognition as the initial drummer for the Beatles between 1960 and 1962. Although he was let go from the group just before they achieved global stardom, he is often considered the fifth Beatle. Best has performed with various bands, including The Pete Best Combo, Lee Curtis and the Allstars, and Herman’s Hermits, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Beatles member in 1988. He turned down an invitation to rejoin the Beatles for their Anthology project in the 1990s. Additionally, Best has explored interests in art, photography, and business ventures.
