Granville Oral Roberts (January 24, 1918 â December 15, 2009) was a prominent American Charismatic Christian televangelist who played a significant role in shaping the religious landscape of American evangelicalism. As one of the pioneers of Prosperity Gospel Theology, he was ordained in both the Pentecostal Holiness and United Methodist churches. From 1947 to 1962, Roberts conducted large-scale tent crusades, which contributed to his influence in the evangelical community.
In 1963, Roberts founded Oral Roberts University, where he also served as an educator and president. He was a prolific author and launched the TV program “The Oral Roberts Show.” Additionally, he established the City of Faith Medical and Research Center and founded the Abundant Life Prayer Group. Through these various endeavors, Roberts left a lasting impact on American evangelicalism.
