Ona Munson (June 16, 1903 â February 11, 1955) was a multifaceted American talent, known for her work as an actress, model, and host. She rose to prominence for her role as Belle Watling in the iconic film “Gone with the Wind” (1939). Munson’s career began in vaudeville, and she made her Broadway debut in George White’s Scandals in 1919. Throughout the 1930s, she enjoyed a successful stage and radio career in New York. Some of her other notable works include “The Shanghai Gesture,” “The Red Badge of Courage,” and “Eddie Cantor’s Radio Program.” In addition to her acting career, Munson co-wrote the play “Four Walls” and contributed to other plays and screenplays. Sadly, she took her own life in 1955 at the age of 51.
