Omar Sharif, originally named Michel Demitri Shalhoub, was an Egyptian actor born in Alexandria, Egypt. He gained prominence for his iconic performances in films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago. Sharif started his acting journey in Egypt, starring in movies like The Blazing Sun and The Devil of the Desert. Other notable works include Funny Girl, The Night of the Generals, and Top Secret!. As a two-time Golden Globe winner, Sharif also earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Lawrence of Arabia. Besides acting, he was a world-class bridge player and wrote several books on the game. Sharif passed away on July 10, 2015, in Cairo.
