Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (1809-1894) was a renowned American physician, poet, and polymath based in Boston. As a celebrated writer of his era, he was a member of the Fireside Poets and gained fame for his “Breakfast-Table” series, beginning with The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table (1858). In addition to his literary accomplishments, Holmes was a medical reformer and a significant figure in the field of anatomy. He was also the father of a future Supreme Court Justice and an inventor.
