Michelle McNamara was an American true crime author and researcher. Best known for her book “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark”, which focused on the Golden State Killer case. Along with her work as an author, McNamara also worked on a number of TV shows, including “True Crime with Aphrodite Jones”. She was also the founder of TrueCrimeDiary.com, a website dedicated to unsolved crime cases. McNamara’s work helped bring attention to forgotten and overlooked cases, and her passionate dedication to her craft has inspired countless others to explore the world of true crime.
Michelle McNamara was named after “Michel de Montaigne”, a French essayist, which was an inspiration to her parents. She was born and raised in the Chicago area, and later studied English and creative writing at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
Michelle McNamara was once engaged to actor/comedian Patton Oswalt, whom she later married. Her dedication to true crime investigation began with an interest in unsolved crimes in her childhood hometown.
