Michelle Knight is a survivor of the Cleveland kidnappings in which she was held captive for 11 years by Ariel Castro. She is best known for her book, “Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, a Life Reclaimed,” in which she shares her harrowing experience and journey to healing. Other works and achievements include: public speaking about overcoming adversity, starting the Lily’s Ray of Hope Foundation to help survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, and participating in the Cleveland Courage Fund to support the other survivors of the kidnappings.

According to Michelle Knight ‘s accounts, she was given her name by her mother, who named her after a character in the novel “Gone with the Wind.”

One less known fact about Michelle Knight is that she was removed from her home and placed in foster care when she was in first grade, after teachers noticed that she appeared unkempt and often fell asleep in class due to a lack of food and sleep at home.
