Meredith Baxter, an American actress, rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s for her various television roles. She is best known for playing Elyse Keaton, the mother in the popular sitcom “Family Ties.” Other significant roles include portraying Catholic teacher Bridget Fitzgerald in “Bridget Loves Bernie,” divorced mother Nancy Lawrence in “Family,” and architect Elyse Keaton in “Family Ties.” Baxter’s warmth, humor, and brilliant smile made her a beloved figure on television. In 2005, she began appearing in commercials for Garden State Life Insurance Company, and in 2006, she temporarily co-hosted the NBC morning news and talk show “Today” with Matt Lauer.
