Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956 â 13 June 1977) was a British child actor best known for portraying Michael Banks in the 1964 film “Mary Poppins.” He also appeared in “The Three Lives of Thomasina” (1963) and provided the voice for Bartholomew in “The Gnome-Mobile” (1967). Tragically, Garber’s career ended prematurely when he contracted hepatitis and passed away at just 21 years old. Actor Roy Dotrice, father of Garber’s co-star Karen Dotrice, had recommended him to Disney Casting.
