Matt Mattox (August 16, 1921 â February 18, 2013) was a versatile American jazz and ballet dancer known for his athleticism and acrobatic background. He gained prominence as a Broadway performer and a specialty dancer in numerous Hollywood musicals. Mattox’s most notable film role was as Caleb Pontipee in the 1954 film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and he also appeared in other films such as “Guys and Dolls.” In addition to his film work, Mattox was involved in Broadway productions like “Kiss Me, Kate” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” As a highly sought-after jazz dancer in Hollywood, he later had a successful career as a choreographer and teacher in Europe. Mattox was a renowned dance educator, teaching at various universities and conservatories across the United States and Europe.
