Martin Å krtel, a retired Slovak professional footballer, is best known for his role as a defender and former captain of the Slovakia national team, as well as his time with Liverpool. Before joining Liverpool in 2008, he played for FK AS TrenÄÃn and Zenit Saint Petersburg. Throughout his eight-and-a-half-year tenure at Liverpool, Å krtel participated in 320 official matches and scored 18 goals. In addition to his time with Liverpool, he also played for Fenerbahce and Spartak Trnava. Å krtel made 83 appearances for Slovakia and was recognized for his unyielding style of play.
