Martin Landau (1928â2017) was a renowned American film and television actor. He first gained recognition for his role as Bela Lugosi in Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” (1959), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Some of his most prominent television roles include Rollin Hand in “Mission: Impossible” (1966â1969) and Commander John Koenig in “Space: 1999” (1975â1977). Landau also appeared in other notable films such as “Crimes and Misdemeanors” (1989) and “Ed Wood” (1994), the latter of which won him an Academy Award. Before his successful acting career, Landau worked as a cartoonist and illustrator. He passed away on July 15, 2017, at the age of 89.
