Mahershala Ali, originally named Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore, is a renowned American actor who has received Academy Awards for his outstanding performances in the films Moonlight and Green Book. He has also been featured in various other notable productions, such as House of Cards, True Detective, Hidden Figures, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2, and Marvel’s Luke Cage. As the first Muslim actor to receive an Academy Award, Ali was recognized as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2019. Besides his acting pursuits, Ali is a rapper who released a mixtape titled Corner Ensemble in 2006. In the critically acclaimed film Moonlight (2016), he portrayed the role of a fatherly drug dealer named Juan, for which he earned an Academy Award.
