Additionally, Morton was the United States ambassador to France, a U.S. representative from New York, and the 31st governor of New York. As a key figure in the Republican Party and a successful American banker, he was known for his conflict resolution skills in the Senate. Morton passed away on his 96th birthday at his Rhinebeck, New York home due to bronchopneumonia.
