Leon Draisaitl, a German professional ice hockey player, is currently a key member of the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Widely considered among the world’s best players, Draisaitl made history during the 2019-2020 season as the first German to win the Art Ross Trophy for being the league’s top scorer. That same season, he also received the Hart Memorial Trophy (MVP) and the Ted Lindsay Award. Draisaitl has represented Germany in various international competitions, such as the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
Hailing from a hockey family, Draisaitl’s father, Peter, was a professional player in Germany for nearly two decades and represented the German national team. Peter also coached Leon during his early years in the sport.
Multilingual, Draisaitl is fluent in German, English, and French, the latter of which he learned while playing for the Quebec Remparts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in Canada.
Draisaitl’s impressive performance has persisted in recent years, ranking 11th in the TSN Top 50 Player Rankings for the 2019-2020 season, third in the 2020-2021 season, and fifth in the 2021-2022 season. As a consistently top-performing athlete, he has made a significant impact both in the NHL and on the international stage.
