John James Audubon, a French-American artist, naturalist, and ornithologist, was largely self-taught and gained recognition for his comprehensive studies and documentation of American birds. His most renowned work is the series of paintings titled “The Birds of America,” which contributed to his reputation as one of the 19th century’s greatest wildlife artists. In addition to his artwork, Audubon authored the book “Ornithological Biography,” featuring written accounts of his observations on various bird species. He played a significant role in founding the National Audubon Society, which was named in his honor. Notably, Audubon created a complete pictorial record of all bird species native to North America.
