Jimmy Ray Dean (August 10, 1928 â June 13, 2010) was a multifaceted American talent, known for his work as a country music singer, television host, actor, and entrepreneur. He gained fame as the creator of the Jimmy Dean sausage brand and served as the spokesperson for its TV commercials. Dean’s career took off when he became a national television personality on CBS in 1957. Some of his most renowned works include hit songs like “Big Bad John” and “The Cajun Queen,” as well as appearances in movies and TV shows such as Diamonds Are Forever, Daniel Boone, and Fantasy Island. In 2010, Dean was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Apart from his entertainment career, he was also a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, having served as an aircraft gunner during the Korean War.
