She initially rose to fame as a teenage model and spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics, a position she maintained for thirty years. O’Neill made her feature film debut in the comedy “For Love of Ivy” (1970) and received critical acclaim for her lead role in Howard Hawks’s Western film “Rio Lobo” (1970). She is best known for her role as Melissa Compton in the iconic film “Summer of ’42” (1971). Some of her other notable works include “Scanners” (1981), “The Psychic” (1977), “A Force of One” (1979), and “The Carey Treatment” (1972). Besides her successful acting career, O’Neill is a published author and has openly discussed her personal struggles and faith.
