Jack Garfein (1930-2019) was a prominent American film and theatre director, writer, teacher, and producer, as well as a Holocaust survivor. He played a significant role in the Actors Studio, where he taught acting to renowned actors such as James Dean and Paul Newman. Garfein directed films like “Something Wild” (1961), “The Strange One” (1957), which marked the film debut of Ben Gazzara, George Peppard, and Julie Wilson, “The Balcony” (1963), “Exit the King” (2006), and another version of “The Strange One” (1967). He was married to actress Carroll Baker from 1955 to 1969, and they had two children together.
