Hugh Malcolm Downs (1921-2020) was a versatile American entertainer with a career spanning over five decades in the radio and television industry. He was best known as the co-anchor of NBC News’ Today and ABC News’ 20/20 programs. Throughout his career, Downs took on various roles, including announcer, programmer, host, news anchor, producer, author, game show host, talk show sidekick, and music composer. Some of his notable accomplishments include hosting The Tonight Show Starring Jack Paar, composing the theme song for the PBS series Over Easy, and being inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Downs received numerous accolades for his work, including seven Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.
