Harold Edward Stassen (1907-2001) was an American politician, military officer, attorney, and Republican Party member. He held the position of 25th Governor of Minnesota from 1939 to 1943, during which time he revitalized the state’s Republican Party. Stassen played a role in negotiating the United Nations Charter and was a strong advocate for nuclear disarmament. He made a record 13 attempts to secure the Republican nomination for President of the United States between 1940 and 2000, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. In addition to his political career, Stassen was a skilled pianist who composed and recorded several original music pieces.
