Harold Russell, a decorated WWII veteran and actor, gained recognition for his Oscar-winning performance as Homer Parrish in the 1946 film “The Best Years of Our Lives.” As the first non-professional actor to receive an Academy Award, Russell played a handless World War II veteran, earning him two Oscars for the role. With his expertise in explosives, he also served as a safety adviser during the movie’s production. Russell later became involved with AMVETS, holding the position of National Commander for three terms. His other notable works include “Inside Moves” and “Dogtown.”
