George Washington Adams, the firstborn son of John Quincy Adams, the sixth U.S. president, and his wife Louisa Adams, was a lawyer and politician. As a Massachusetts Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, he participated in public works projects, such as the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal construction, and actively opposed slavery during his congressional tenure. Unfortunately, Adams struggled with alcoholism, which likely contributed to his untimely death at just 28 years old.
