Frankie Beverly, born Howard Beverly on December 6, 1946, is a renowned American singer, musician, songwriter, and producer. He gained fame as the founder and lead vocalist of the soul and funk band Maze, which he established in 1970 in his hometown of Philadelphia, initially naming it Raw Soul. Some of his most well-known works include hit songs such as “Joy and Pain,” “Before I Let Go,” “Golden Time of Day,” “Running Away,” “Can’t Get Over You,” “Back in Stride,” and “We Are One.” Beverly and Maze have been honored with numerous awards, including the Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award and an induction into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame. Interestingly, Beverly is a self-taught guitarist, despite his soulful voice.
