Frankie Avalon, born Francis Thomas Avallone on September 18, 1940, is an American singer, actor, and former teen idol who gained prominence in the 1950s and 1960s. He is best known for his hit songs “Venus” and “Why,” which both topped the U.S. Billboard charts in 1959. In addition to his music career, Avalon starred in numerous popular films such as the “Beach Party” series, “Grease,” “The Alamo,” and “The Young Doctors.” He also made appearances on various TV shows, hosted his own variety show, and was a guest on “The Jackie Gleason Show.”
Before his rise to fame, Avalon was a Golden Gloves boxer and served in the United States Army Reserve. Throughout his career, he had an impressive 31 charting U.S. Billboard singles from 1958 to late 1962, including his number one hits ‘Venus’ and ‘Why.’
