Frank Gatliff (1927-1990) was a versatile English actor and screenwriter who gained prominence for his role as a highwayman in Stanley Kubrick’s “Barry Lyndon” (1975). Born in Australia, he later moved to Great Britain and became known for his work in various films and TV series, including “The Omen” (1976), “The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” (1975), “Out of Africa” (1985), “The Living Daylights” (1987), “Excalibur” (1981), “The Ipcress File,” “Miss Marple: Nemesis,” and “Doctor Who.” Gatliff served as a soldier during World War II and was captured by the Germans, spending 14 months in a POW camp before being liberated. Despite these challenges, he returned to England and pursued a successful career in acting and screenwriting.
