Evelyn King, also known as Evelyn “Champagne” King, is an American pop and R&B singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1970s. She is best known for her hit song “Shame,” which reached No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and was included in her debut album, Smooth Talk, released in 1977. Some of her other popular songs include “Love Come Down,” “I’m in Love,” “Betcha She Don’t Love You,” and “High Horse.” Throughout her career, King has earned three Grammy Award nominations and has been inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. She began her musical journey at the age of 14 as a member of a girl group called “The Relatives,” alongside her cousins.
