Eugene Garfield, an American scientist and information specialist, was a trailblazer in bibliometrics and transformed how researchers access scientific publications. In 1960, he established the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) in Philadelphia, which created the Science Citation Index. Garfield’s most renowned work includes “Essays of an Information Scientist” and his significant contributions to citation analysis. Additionally, he was a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a recipient of the National Medal of Science.
