John Eric Bartholomew OBE, better known by his stage name Eric Morecambe, was a renowned English comedian who formed the legendary double act Morecambe and Wise with Ernie Wise. Their partnership, which began in 1941, continued until Morecambe’s death in 1984. The duo’s show reached record-breaking viewing figures on British television, making them one of the most popular comedic acts of the post-war period. Some of their other notable works include “Two of a Kind,” “The Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise Show,” “That Riviera Touch,” and “The Intelligence Men.” Throughout his career, Morecambe actively participated in charity work and received an OBE in 1976 for his contributions to entertainment. A passionate birdwatcher, he even had a bird sanctuary named in his honor, the Eric Morecambe Bird Reserve.
