Eddie Gaven, born in Hammonton, New Jersey, is a former American professional soccer player who gained prominence as a member of the United States men’s national soccer team and Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew. From a young age, Gaven displayed exceptional soccer skills, leading his high school team to multiple state championships and committing to play for the University of Connecticut.
However, before attending college, Gaven was drafted by the MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls) in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. He made an immediate impact on the team, earning MLS Rookie of the Year honors and establishing himself as a top midfielder. Gaven was known for his speed, agility, and playmaking abilities, which led him to play for several MLS teams, including the Columbus Crew and San Jose Earthquakes, before retiring in 2015.
Throughout his career, Gaven received numerous accolades, including three MLS All-Star selections and a MLS Cup victory with the Columbus Crew in 2008. He represented the United States at various youth levels and was part of the U.S. Olympic team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Gaven holds the record for being the youngest player to score a goal in MLS history at 16 years and 251 days.
Off the field, Gaven is married to former professional soccer player Cat Whitehill, and the couple has two children. He actively engages in charitable work, supporting organizations like the Special Olympics and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
