Edward Leo Peter McMahon Jr., commonly known as Ed McMahon, was a multifaceted American personality, known for his roles as an announcer, game show host, comedian, actor, singer, and combat aviator. He gained widespread fame for his 30-year tenure as Johnny Carson’s sidekick and announcer on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” from 1962 to 1992. In addition to this, McMahon hosted the popular syndicated show “Star Search” for 12 years and was involved in other notable projects such as hosting “TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes” and acting in films like “Fun with Dick and Jane” and “Full Moon High.” Throughout his career, McMahon actively supported various charities and organizations.
