Edmond Francis Xavier Gilbert, known professionally as Ed Gilbert, was an American actor recognized for his unique baritone voice. He gained fame for voicing antagonistic characters in various animated series, such as Grimlock in “The Transformers” and Baloo in “TaleSpin.” His other notable roles include Mr. Conrad in “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!”, General Hawk in “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero,” and Great Chief in “The Powerpuff Girls.” A United States Navy veteran, Gilbert also practiced hypnotherapy, meditation, and yoga in his personal life.
In addition to his acting career, Gilbert had a keen interest in the study of Coleoptera, describing several beetle species and genera. Sadly, he passed away from lung cancer on May 8, 1999, at his Beverly Hills, California home.
