Donald Cook (1901-1961) was a renowned American actor who made a name for himself in both pre-Code Hollywood films and on Broadway. He received critical acclaim for his roles in movies such as “The Public Enemy” (1931), “Safe in Hell” (1931), “Baby Face” (1933), and “Viva Villa!” (1934). In addition to his film career, Cook also found success on stage, most notably as David Naughton in the Broadway production of “Claudia” (1941-1943). He was also one of the first actors to bring the character Ellery Queen to life. Cook’s contributions extended beyond acting, as he was an innovative flight instructor for the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. His instructional films were highly regarded for their effectiveness in training pilots.
