Don Knotts was a pivotal figure in television character acting. He came to prominence with his five-time Emmy nominated performance as Deputy Barney Fife on the 1960s sitcom ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ (1960-1968). He was also a knockout on ‘Three’s Company’ (1979-1984) as Ralph Furley.
Born Jesse Donald Knotts, he strongly disliked his first name. His fellow actor Andy Griffith often called him Jess to annoy him even more.
Before he became a professional actor, he worked as a ventriloquist in his teen years with a doll was named Danny.
