He is best known for his groundbreaking contributions to the field of computing, including the conception of the first automatic digital computer, the Analytical Engine. Among Babbage’s most notable works are the designs for the Difference Engine, the Analytical Engine, and the first computer printer. Although his designs remained unfinished during his lifetime, they can be viewed at the Science Museum in London. Babbage was also involved in code-breaking, philosophy, and music, as an accomplished organist who believed in the close relationship between music and mathematics.
