Since 1973, Carl XVI Gustaf has served as Sweden’s King, becoming the nation’s longest-reigning monarch. As a constitutional monarch and ceremonial head of state, he is recognized for his philanthropic and environmental efforts, including his work with the World Wildlife Fund. Additionally, he supports military veterans, promotes Sweden’s cultural heritage, and participates in the International Olympic Committee. In 2003, he faced a blackmail attempt involving compromising photos of his younger sister, Princess Christina, but refused to comply with the demands. The perpetrators were eventually arrested and imprisoned. King Carl XVI Gustaf’s motto is “For Sweden – With the times.”
