Candia McWilliam, a Scottish author, gained critical acclaim for her memoir, “What to Look for in Winter: A Memoir in Blindness” (2010). Her other prominent works include “A Case of Knives” (1988), “A Little Stranger” (1989), and “Debatable Land” (1994). In 1996, she served as a judge for the Man Booker Prize and was awarded the Scottish Arts Council Book Award. Before focusing on her writing career, McWilliam briefly worked as an actress. An interesting tidbit about her is that she won a Vogue writing competition and was employed by the magazine from 1976 to 1979.
